How we test software

Last updated October 12, 2026

Every review on ProfiteraAI follows the same process, so you can compare our verdicts across products and check our work.

1. We use a real account

We sign up the way you would — free plan, free trial, or a paid plan we pay for ourselves. We do not review from demos run by the vendor's sales team, and we do not accept free upgrades in exchange for coverage. If a vendor gives us extended access, the review says so.

2. We use it for real work, for at least 14 days

We build the thing the product is for: a funnel, an email sequence, a CRM pipeline, a store. Screenshots in our reviews come from those accounts, not from the vendor's press kit, and each one is captioned with what it shows.

3. We check every price against the official pricing page

Prices in our tables come from the vendor's own pricing page and carry the date we checked them. We record add-ons, usage limits, and the price after any introductory discount ends, because that is what you will actually pay in year two.

4. We do the break-even math

Each review answers one question with numbers: when does this tool pay for itself? That might be hours saved, subscriptions replaced, or extra sales needed. The formula is shown so you can plug in your own figures.

5. We score with the same weights every time

CriterionWeightWhat we look at
Value for money30%Price vs. what it replaces, cost growth as you scale, hidden fees
Fit for the target buyer20%Does it do the core job well for a small business or creator?
Ease of use20%Time to first result, learning curve, quality of templates
Reliability & support15%Bugs found during testing, support response time, documentation
Pricing transparency15%Clear public pricing, fair cancellation, no surprise upsells

The final score is out of 10. A score below 6 means we would not recommend the product to most readers.

6. We name who should not buy

Every review includes a "who should not buy this" section and at least one alternative — including free options when they are good enough.

7. We keep reviews current

We re-check prices and key features at least every six months, and sooner when a vendor announces changes. Each update is listed at the end of the review under "What changed in this update".

Research reviews

Some reviews are labeled research review at the top. These are built from the vendor's official pricing, documentation, and help center, dated third-party price checks, and patterns in verified user reviews — before we have completed steps 1 and 2 above. A research review never claims hands-on testing and carries no score. When our own test is finished, we add the results and screenshots, give a score, and note the change at the end of the page.
